Statue of Decebalus

The statue of the Dacer king Decebalus is a 55 meter high statue and at the same time the tallest rock sculpture in Europe. It is located on a rock formation of the Almăj Mountains on the banks of the Danube near the village of Dubova , southwest of the city of Orșova ( Romania ), in the Iron Gate Nature Park (Romanian: Parcul Natural Porțile de Fier ).

The idea comes from the Romanian businessman and historian Iosif Constantin Drăgan . A total of twelve sculptors were involved in the project, it took ten years to complete (1994–2004) and in the end it cost over one million US dollars.

East of the statue, and thus on the Serb bank side, is the tab Traiana (German: panel of the Traian ), a carved into the rock of the Iron Gate, the Roman Emperor Trajan dedicated inscription .

Under Decebal's face there is the Latin inscription "DECEBALUS REX - DRAGAN FECIT" (" King Decebal - Built by Drăgan ").
