Location of Dubova in Mehedinți County

Dubova is a municipality in Mehedinți County , Romania . The villages of Baia Nouǎ , Eibenthal , Plavişevița and Tisovița also belong to the municipality of Dubova . Dubova is one of the largest Czech communities in Romania.

Geographical location

Dubova is located in the south of the Mehedinți district, 50 kilometers from Turnu Severin and 25 kilometers from Orșova , on the Danube defile Clisura Dunării between the so-called large and small basins (Romanian: Cazane ). The statue of Decebalus , which was carved directly into a rock formation in the Almăj Mountains , can be seen directly at Dubova .

history

Dubova was founded in the 1820s at the same time as the other Czech communities in the Banat ( Bigăr , Gârnic , Sfânta Elena , Sfânta Elisabeta , Ravensca , Frauenwiese and Șumița ). Around 35 families from the area around Pilsen , Příbram and Kladno came down the Danube on rafts to Moldova Nouă in 1826–1828 .
