Dzierżno reservoir
The reservoirs at Dzierżno (German: Sersno ) were created in the 1930s. Dzierżno is a part of the city of Pyskowice (Peiskretscham).
history
The smaller reservoir east of Bitschin was built between 1933 and 1938 in place of an open- cast mine hole in which sand was removed beforehand. The basin was filled with water from the Drama . The reservoir was put into operation in 1936. The reservoir today has an area of 204 ha and holds 6 million m³ of additional water.
The basins were named after the neighboring town of Sersno . When the place Sersno was renamed Stauwerder, the reservoirs were also renamed Stauwerder in 1936. The place, today Dzierżno, is now a district of Pyskowice (Peiskretscham).
The reservoirs in Dzierżno are two of several built in the 1930s reservoirs in Upper Silesia . Construction of the reservoir in Sersno began after the reservoir in Ottmachau was completed. The reservoirs were supposed to guarantee the permanent navigability of the Oder. This should then have a driving depth of at least 1.40 meters in the dry years.
The larger reservoir is located south of the small basin and is 615 hectares in size and holds 41 million m³ of additional water with a total volume of 87 million m³. The Klodnitz flows between the two basins . The large reservoir was completed in 1964.
