STAUFF is the registered brand name of a group of companies that has specialized in the development, manufacture and worldwide distribution of fluid power components for mechanical and plant engineering. The core products of the group of companies include pipe, hose and cable clamps , which have become known as STAUFF clamps , as well as measuring couplings and devices, hydraulic filters and other components for hydraulic lines, units and containers.

The parent company of STAUFF is Walter Stauffenberg GmbH & Co. KG, based in Werdohl ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). In the neighboring towns of Neuenrade and Plettenberg , the company operates a fully automated logistics center and maintains another production site. The group of companies also includes independently operating and legally independent foreign companies in 18 countries worldwide. The company employs more than 1,400 people worldwide.

The companies of the STAUFF companies belong to LUKAD, a holding company managed by the Menshen family, which is also based in Werdohl ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

history

At the beginning of the 1930s, Stauffenberg und Frodenau , a trading company for machine-technical articles, was established. In 1937 the name was changed to Walter Stauffenberg and the focus of business became the manufacture and repair of spring cores for mattresses. During the Second World War, the company was closed until Walter Stauffenberg dared to start over as a one-man operation on August 20, 1945 under the same name. The company founder himself resigned as owner of the company with its seven employees on October 4, 1955 and passed the business on to the next generation, who converted the company into a contract turning shop for local production companies. The associated change of name to Walter Stauffenberg KG is considered to be the time the company was founded in its current form.

After completion of renovation and conversion measures, Werdohl-Ütterlingsen moved to Neustadtstrasse 27 in Werdohl-Mitte in mid-1963. The company had 20 employees when the scrap and metal dealer Arnold Menshen took over the company based in the building he rented from his father-in-law, a nephew of Walter Stauffenberg, by changing the entry in the commercial register on February 23, 1964. As far as possible, turned parts were produced for a manufacturer of hydraulic pumps. Shortly after the takeover, the production of wooden pipe fastenings began in an extension of the building on Neustadtstrasse. The aim of the product was to dampen the vibrations that occur around the hydraulic pumps and thus protect the systems from leaks and costly failures. A typical clamp consisted of two opposing halves which, after they were joined together and fixed with two screws, had a round opening in the middle the diameter of the high-pressure line to be attached. There were no reliable alternatives to clamps made of wood and metal that could have taken on this task.

The use of direct operated valves with electromagnets , however, pushed the product to the limit of its capabilities. These valves closed suddenly when actuated and the resulting kickback caused considerable vibrations and noises. Even clamps made of pock wood were not able to permanently dampen the vibrations of the high pressure lines. With Arnold Menshen's initiative to manufacture mounting clamps in block form from polypropylene, a plastic that was previously viewed critically by the hydraulics industry, the problems could be managed.

Pipe and hose clamps in a design comparable to the type of that time are still part of the core products of the STAUFF group of companies. Their exact design has been defined in the DIN standard DIN 3015 since the beginning of the 1990s .

In 1972 the first foreign company was founded in the United States. In 1973 the production of components for aggregate, tank and container construction began. In 1976 the foreign company was founded in Australia, 1977 in Great Britain and 1980 in France. In 1982 the production of test couplings and hoses began. In 1983 Walter Stauffenberg KG moved to its current location in Werdohl-Ehrenfeld. In 1983 the production of hydraulic filters began. In 1989 the name was changed from Walter Stauffenberg KG to Walter Stauffenberg GmbH & Co. KG.

In 1990 the production area at the Werdohl-Ehrenfeld location was expanded. The foreign subsidiary in China was founded in 1994 and the one in Canada in 1995. In 1995 the storage space at the Werdohl-Ehrenfeld location was expanded. In 2000, the foreign company was founded in India and Italy. In 2002 the logistics center was set up at the Neuenrade-Küntrop location and the office space at the Werdohl-Ehrenfeld location was expanded. In 2003 the foreign subsidiaries were founded in New Zealand, 2004 in Poland and South Korea, 2005 in Russia and 2007 in Ireland. In 2004 the production of flange connections began. In 2011 the foreign subsidiaries were founded in Malaysia and Ukraine, and in 2012 in Vietnam.

In 2012, the logistics center at the Neuenrade-Küntrop location was expanded, a technology center and production areas were set up at the Werdohl-Ehrenfeld location.

In 2013, another subsidiary of the company was opened in Thailand.

In April 2015, Meinerzhagener Voswinkel GmbH, a manufacturer of quick release couplings, hose fittings and pipelines, was taken over by the STAUFF Group.
