The Brzeg Dolny barrage is located approx. 5 km upstream from the town of the same name Brzeg Dolny and dams the Oder at river kilometer 280.
The system consists of the following hydraulic engineering parts:
- a weir system with four weir flaps
- a lock
- a fish ladder
- a hydropower plant
The weir system has four openings with a clear width of 23 m each. The water level and the amount of draining water can be regulated by four weir flaps, each 8.5 m high.
The single-chamber lock is available for shipping, with a length of 225 m and width of 12 m, which can be used by cargo ships according to CEMT up to waterway class IV ( European ship ) but also by push or coupling convoys (class Vb).
An average volume of water of 4.3 m³ / s runs over the fish ladder and enables the organisms to bypass the structural barriers.
With an output of 9.7 MW, the hydropower plant is currently the largest of the seven Oder power plants. It consists of four turbines with a capacity of 60 m³ / s each.
