Stavsund (older spelling: Stafsund ) is a manor on the Swedish island of Ekerö in Lake Mälaren . The main building is located near a long bay ( Norrviken ), which separates the smaller island of Helgö from Ekerö. The name comes from the former village of Staf, which was one of the areas that were incorporated into the property in the 1670s. At that time, the Kaggeholm mansion on the other side of the bay also belonged to the estate.

history

The property was formed under Field Marshal Carl Gustav Wrangel (1613–1676), who united several lands. This sold the estate to the royal advisor and Count Erik Lindschöld (1634–1690). Lindschöld, the great reputation with the kings Karl XI. and Charles XII. owned, had the main building, which is still preserved today, built. Charles XI. Lindschöld often visited Stavsund and so the largest room in the manor house is now called the “King's Hall”.

The manor house then changed hands several times within various Swedish noble families as a result of marriage, purchase and inheritance. The estate currently belongs to a member of the Reuterskiöld family .

building

The main building was probably designed by Nicodemus Tessin the Elder (1615–1681), one of the most important Swedish architects of his time. The original late baroque style was no longer so clear after the stepped hipped roof was replaced by a flat gable roof . Most of the interior furnishings date from the 19th century. There are also two small wing structures and a windmill from the 1720s on the site .

The so-called Klinckowström library with more than 20,000 volumes was located in the north wing for a long time . Most of the works, as well as some portrait paintings, came from the inheritance of Fredrik Axel von Fersen , the father-in-law of the owner at the time. The main building was extensively renovated in 1865 and from 1982 to 1984. The stairwell was painted green to imitate Kolmården marble . The stairs in the middle part of the building lead up to the 10 m × 10 m large "King's Hall", which is about five meters high. This hall is now occasionally rented out for concerts, festive banquets or gatherings.
