Gien, Ste-Jeanne d'Arc

Ste-Jeanne d'Arc is the Roman Catholic parish church of Gien ( Loiret department ) in France . The church has been classified as a monument historique since 1940 (tower) and 2001 (nave) .

history

The church, now under the patronage of St. Joan of Arc , was originally built in the Flamboyant Gothic style as a collegiate church consecrated to St. Stephen, the arch-martyr . The consecration of this collegiate church took place in 1514. The church tower that is still preserved today was probably built in its core at an earlier point in time.

The church was damaged during the French Revolution and divorced in 1828. As a result, a new church was built by the architect François Pagot while retaining the tower, which was consecrated to St. Peter in 1832. This church was bombed on June 15, 1940 and destroyed after a subsequent fire. While maintaining the tower, the architects Paul and Jean Gardiner created a new church building, which was consecrated on March 28, 1954 to St. Joan of Arc.
