Steadroy Benjamin

Steadroy "Cutie" Benjamin is a from Antigua and Barbuda derived lawyer and politician of the Antigua Labor Party . He has been a member of the House of Representatives since 1994 .

Education and professional career

Benjamin received his education at the Goodwill Academy and the Antigua Grammar School in Saint John's . This was followed by studies at the University of the West Indies , from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts . He then studied law at the University of Westminster in London . In 1980 he was admitted to practice as a solicitor in England and Wales. The following year he received his license in his home country. There he practices as a lawyer. Benjamin specialized in criminal proceedings.

Political career

In the 1994 general election , Benjamin was elected to the House of Representatives in his home country as the Antigua Labor Party candidate for the constituency of St. John's City South . He was previously a member of the Antigua and Barbuda Senate . In his first general election, his party placed him as the successor to his party friend Christopher O'Mard . He prevailed with 60.34% of the vote against the candidate of the United Progressive Party . Since then, Benjamin has managed to defend his seat in every election. During his time as a member of parliament, he held various offices. For example, he was already Minister of Labor and Minister of Public Works. He is currently a member of the Antigua and Barbuda Cabinet as Attorney General and Minister of Justice .
