Stefán Sigurðsson from Hvítadal

Stefán Sigurðsson frá Hvítadal (born October 11, 1887 in Hólmavík , † March 7, 1933 in Bessatunga ) was an Icelandic poet and representative of neo-romanticism . He had a great influence on Icelandic literature. He stayed at Unuhús , which was also visited by Halldór Laxness and Þórbergur Þórðarson . He is also considered a mentor to Steinn Steinarr .

Stefán converted to Catholicism in 1923 , so the Christian faith plays an important role in his later works. His poetry was especially popular with young people, but Stefán was denied financial success. He died a poor peasant.
