General Stefan "Grot" Rowecki Bridge (Polish. Most gen. Stefana Grota-Roweckiego , originally most Toruński , commonly known as most Grota-Roweckiego or most Grota ) is a bridge over the Vistula in Warsaw . It connects the Warsaw districts Żoliborz and Praga-Północ and was built between 1977 and 1981 as part of the Trasa Toruńska . Today it is part of the north bypass of Warsaw, the Droga ekspresowa S8 .

In 2016, an average of 180,057 vehicles drove over the Rowecki Bridge every day, which is the largest number of all eight road bridges in Warsaw.

description

The bridge was named after Stefan Rowecki , the first commander in chief of the Polish Home Army . The bridge dedication ceremony in November 1981 was accompanied by a mass demonstration by veterans and the Democratic opposition.

The Stefan Rowecki Bridge is one of the largest bridges in Warsaw , along with the Siekierkowski Bridge . The bridge is 645 m long and consists of two independently constructed parts, each of which has five lanes (there were four before the renovation).

In September 2009, the GDDKiA started the reconstruction of the bridge, whereby the bridge was expanded to a total of ten lanes, five in each direction. When the reconstruction was completed, the bridge became part of the S8 .
