Żoliborz is one of the districts of the Polish capital Warsaw . It is located north of the city center on the left bank of the Vistula .

The area belonged to the piarists of a Warsaw monastery in the 18th century . The monks created plots to settle these areas. One of these parcels was named Jolie Bord , French for beautiful dam . Later the Polish translation Żoliborz was established as the name.

Probably the most important sight in Żoliborz is the citadel with its surrounding park.
