Wawer is a district of Warsaw located in the southeast of the city. The Vistula forms the western border of the city district. Wawer became an independent district of Warsaw on October 27, 2002 , before it was part of the Praga Południe district and before that it was an independent municipality.
Wawer borders in the north on Praga Południe and Rembertów , on Wesoła in the east and Wilanów in the west, across the Vistula. Wawer is the largest of the Warsaw boroughs in terms of area.
