Location of the districts

Bielany is a municipality in the north-west of Warsaw .

The name Bielany, a plural in the Polish language, is derived from a white monastery building of the Camaldolese priory , the church of which is still preserved.

Before the administrative reorganization of Warsaw in 1994, Bielany belonged to Żoliborz . Today Bielany has the status of its own district with the districts of Chomiczówka, Huta, Las Bielański, Marymont-Kaskada, Marymont-Ruda, Młociny, Piaski, Placówka, Radiowo, Stare Bielany, Słodowiec, Wawrzyszew, Wólka Węglowa and Wrzecionoa. It borders Żoliborz in the southeast and Bemowo in the southwest . The north-eastern border forms the Vistula , on the opposite side of which lies the Białołęka District . In the west and north-west Bielany forms the city limits of Warsaw and borders the municipalities Łomianki , Izabelin and Stare Babice in the Powiat Warszawski Zachodni .
