The Cistercian Abbey of Sant Hilari de Lleida was a Cistercian monastery in Lleida , Lleida Province in Catalonia from 1204 to 1718 .

history

Elvira von Subirats, wife of Count Ermengol VIII von Urgell , donated in 1204 in front of the walls of Lleida (on the way to Monzón , at the place of today's university clinic) the nunnery of Sant Hilari ("Hilarius"), which was confirmed by the Pope in 1220 and with Cistercian Sisters of the Vallbona Monastery was settled. Elvira's daughter Aurembiaix was buried in the monastery in 1231. In 1604 the convent accepted the nuns of the closed monastery El Pedregal . In 1640 the convent moved to the city. When the monastery was destroyed by King Philip V in the War of the Spanish Succession , the nuns went to the El Patrocinio monastery in Tamarite de Litera, which had been founded for them in 1718 . Today in Lleida, Carrer de Sant Hilari is a reminder of the former monastery.
