The Cistercian Abbey El Pedregal was 1176-1604 a monastery of Cistercian nuns in El Talladell, Tàrrega , Comarca Urgell in Catalonia .

history

A local family donated in 1176 east of Tàrrega (halfway towards El Talladell) the nunnery Santa Maria del Pedregal ("stone place", from Latin petra "stone"), which was settled by the Vallbona monastery . The election of Dolça de Peramola as abbess led from 1209 to rich donations from the local nobility. Since the monastery was on the road from Barcelona to Lleida , it ran a hostel with a hospital. In 1589 the monastery took over the convent of Vallsanta , but in 1604 had to move to the monastery of Sant Hilari de Lleida itself . After the ruins were finally destroyed by the floods of 1874, the present-day chapel (also known as the hermitage) was built using remains. It was restored in 1991 and is a listed building (privately owned).
