Vallsanta Cistercian Abbey
The Cistercian Abbey Vallsanta was 1237-1589 a monastery of Cistercian nuns in Guimerà, Comarca Urgell , province of Lleida in Catalonia .
history
The Cistercian Abbey of La Bovera , whose monastery location was unsuitable, gave it up and founded the new Vallsanta ("Sacred Valley") monastery in 1237 a short distance away, this time in the valley instead of on the heights. It existed until 1589. Then it was dissolved. The last nuns moved to the El Pedregal monastery . Remnants of the monastery church still stand on site. The results of excavations from 1986 and 2008 are in the Museum of Guimerà.
