Cistercian Abbey of La Bovera
The Cistercian Abbey of La Bovera was a Cistercian monastery in Guimerà, Comarca Urgell , Lleida province in Catalonia from 1190 to 1237 .
history
The Cistercian Abbey of Vallbona founded in 1190 fifteen kilometers south-east of Tàrrega and two kilometers west of Guimerà on a hill that was previously inhabited by Reklusen , the monastery of Santa Maria de La Bovera or Mare de Déu de la Bovera ("Our Lady of La Bovera"), named after the miraculous discovery of an image of Mary by a shepherd. The place of the monastery proved to be not very viable due to lack of water. In 1231 some of the nuns therefore left La Bovera and founded the Valldaura monastery . The remaining convent had to give up the place in 1237 and founded the Vallsanta monastery at the foot of the same hill in the valley . La Bovera continued to be used religiously and still exists today as a place of pilgrimage and events. The church dates from the 18th century.
