Stefan Büttner (philologist)
Stefan Büttner (* 1967 in Wiesbaden ) is a German classical philologist .
After studying classical philology and philosophy at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz , the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and the University of Marburg Büttner was with the work , the literary theory in Plato and its anthropological justification for Arbogast Schmitt doctorate . From 1996 to 2002 he was a research assistant at the Philipps University in Marburg. From 2002 to 2011 he was academic councilor or senior counselor, interrupted by a Greek professorship at the University of Vienna (2009-2010) at the University of Konstanz , where he received his habilitation in 2007 . Since March 2011 he has held the professorship for Greek studies at the Institute for Classical Philology, Middle and New Latin at the University of Vienna.
Research focuses on ancient philosophy, ancient literary theory and aesthetics, Greek tragedy, the history of reception and ideas.
