Stefan Dzikowski (born March 2, 1957 in Bremen ) is a German author of non-fiction books on the subject of autism , therapist and board member of the Federal Association " Autism Germany" eV

Life

Dzikowski grew up in Bremen and graduated from high school on Parsevalstrasse . He studied social pedagogy and psychology at the University of Bremen . For a few years he attended the drama school of the Bremen Amateur Theater Association and appeared on small stages in northern Germany.

In 1975 he began his therapeutic career in a special school for autistic children. At that time, when there was still little knowledge about the learning and development abilities of autistic children, Dzikowski worked on the so-called "Bremen Project". Here he met some German autism researchers such as Hermann Cordes and Hans E. Kehrer . In 1980 Dzikowski moved from there to the Autism Therapy Center in Bremen , where he still works today. In 1993 he founded the "Institute for Perception Therapy and Intervision " in Bremen.

Dzikowski has published numerous books and magazine articles about his experiences with autistic children and their parents. In addition to therapeutic work, the focus is on early detection and therapy, “sensory integration therapy”, advanced training and autism research. His widely used documentation Causes of Autism presents with 60 theories practically all of the aetiological ' explanatory models of autism mentioned in the literature . Since 1999 he has been a member of the board of the Federal Association "Autism Germany" eV in Hamburg.

Dzikowski is visiting professor at Danube University Krems .

Awards

In 1987 Dzikowski received the Bremen Study Prize for special scientific achievements in the field of social sciences and humanities for the development of sensory integration therapy for people with autism.
