Stefan Helmersson (born August 13, 1993 in Christchurch ) is a New Zealand ice hockey player who has been playing for the Southern Stampede in the New Zealand Ice Hockey League since 2015 .

Career

Stefan Helmersson, who was born in New Zealand to Swedish parents, began his career as an ice hockey player in the homeland of his ancestors. There he first played in youth teams in Gävle and later in various clubs in Division 1 and Division 2 . He returned to New Zealand at the age of 23 and has since played for Southern Stampede in the New Zealand Ice Hockey League . In 2016 and 2017 he was national champion with the club of New Zealand.

International

For New Zealand , Helmersson first took part in the 2018 Division II World Championships when he was voted the tournament's best defender.
