Stefan Könemann (born December 8, 1962 ) is a German entrepreneur and managing director of Barsortiment Könemann Vertriebs GmbH , based in Hagen .

Career

The Könemann family from Hagen in Westphalia is a long-established family of entrepreneurs that was and is primarily active in the wholesale trade for press products and media. Könemann finished his law studies at the University of Münster in 1991 when he passed the first state examination at the Hamm Higher Regional Court.

Shortly after leaving the university, Könemann began his involvement with the Schweriner Volkszeitung . In 1998, Stefan Könemann switched to the family-owned company Barsortiment Könemann GmbH & Co KG . In 2001 he became part of the company's management. In 2012 after the dissolution of Barsortiment Könemann GmbH & Co KG , he became managing director of the newly founded Barsortiment Könemann Vertriebs GmbH , a joint venture of the Könemann family and the Libri bar range.

Engagement in the Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels

In 2002, Stefan Könemann was elected to the board of the North Rhine-Westphalia regional association, which he headed as its successor from 2004 to 2011 after the publisher Bertram Gallus' death . The merger of the state association of North Rhine-Westphalia with the federal association, which also ended his term of office as chairman of the state association, has a lasting influence on the structure of the Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels , which was initiated by Stefan Könemann in 2011 and supported by a vote of the members. From 2005 to 2010, Stefan Könemann also held the position of a member of the supervisory board of the marketing and publishing service of the book trade business operations of the Börsenverein . From 2012 to 2018 Stefan Könemann was chairman of the committee for intermediate book trading in the Börsenverein. In March 2017 he was elected to the Board of Trustees of the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade . In February 2019 it was announced that Stefan Könemann was running for the office of head of the stock exchange association. In the election on June 19, 2019, Stefan Könemann received 443 out of 943 votes and was only barely defeated by the candidate Karin Schmidt-Friderichs.
