biography

Kainath grew up in Lower Franconia. In 1974 he started martial arts in Bad Kissingen and practiced several styles such as karate , judo and aikido . In 1982 he founded a sports karate department in the DJK Schweinfurt and has been a trainer ever since.

In addition to the discipline of pointfighting (semi-contact karate), where, similar to fencing, the point is indicated by the main referee after the stop command, he mainly trained kata , a precisely defined sequence of movements made up of block and attack techniques, i.e. a fight against imaginary opponents. In addition to the traditional kata (forms), he also trains his own choreographed freestyle forms to music, also with traditional Asian weapons such as. B. the Bo (long stick).

Kainath is known in sports circles as Steve Kainath. He started in competitions in addition to point fighting in the traditional, freestyle and weapons classes. Since 1995 he has mainly focused on the weapon forms class, where he achieved his greatest successes. He has been a member of the national team of the World Karate and Kickboxing Association (WKA) Germany since 1995 and is the only athlete to have participated in all of the WKA world championships since 1995. He became world champion in 2003 and 2011 and won ten medals (2 × gold, 5 × silver and 3 × bronze) in his thirteen active World Cup participations, as well as being 14 times German champion. He was also successful as a coach: his students won 15 world championship medals, three of which went to his wife Rangsee, who became world champion in pointfighting up to 50 kg in Dublin in 1997 . In 2002 he became national coach of WKA Germany for the freestyle and weapon forms classes and, together with Erich Albrecht from Erfurt, looked after the German national team at the World Cup in Italy. Since 2003 he has been the head national trainer for "Formen" and has been looking after the squad athletes in all of the Formen classes since then.

Since April 2006, the professional soldier , at that time in the rank of Sergeant Major , has been employed in the sports promotion group of the Mainz Bundeswehr . Today he is sergeant major and its head. Kainath has lived in Appenheim with his wife and two children since 2006. Since May 2007 he has been leading a sports karate group at the Turnverein 1891 Appenheim.
