Stefan Krebs (* 1960 in Neckarsulm ) is the representative of the state government for information technology (" Chief Information Officer " - CIO) of the state of Baden-Württemberg .

Professional activities

Stefan Krebs graduated from the University of Public Administration and Finance in Ludwigsburg in 1986 with a degree in public administration. After several years as a developer and project manager at the data center in Baden-Württemberg and the regional data center in Franconia, he switched to the banking sector in 1990.

Initially, he was responsible for financing and accounting at Fiat Bank as a developer and project manager, before taking over the development and management of credit risk management there at the end of 1993. In mid-1995 he switched to the Landesgirokasse , a predecessor of the Landesbank Baden-Württemberg . There he was in charge of the redesign of the IT revision before he took over the development of IT security management.

From 2001, Stefan Krebs held various management positions at Finanz Informatik , the IT service provider for the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe, and its predecessor company in Hanover. There he was responsible for the company organization and as internal CIO responsible for the control and optimization of the IT landscape. At the same time, he was also responsible, among other things, for the establishment and management of IT security management and risk management. In addition, he headed a task force to improve production stability and align the operation of customer data centers to ITIL .

On July 1, 2015, Stefan Krebs was appointed ministerial director and at the same time appointed representative of the state government for information technology ( CIO ). As CIO he is responsible for the strategic planning and further development of the entire state IT in Baden-Württemberg. He oversees the state's higher IT authority in Baden-Württemberg ( BITBW ), the state's central IT service provider, and represents Baden-Württemberg in the IT planning council across all federal and state levels . At the same time, as Chief Digital Officer (CDO), he is assigned the department for digitization, which is responsible for the conception and implementation of a cross-departmental digitization strategy in the state.

In connection with the problems surrounding the digital education platform Ella Online , Stefan Krebs was also initially criticized. So he was accused of inaction in his supervisory role. The report by the State Audit Office on the Ella education platform in September 2019 put the allegations into perspective.

Awards

In 2016, Stefan Krebs received the Vogel IT Academy E-Government Award. In the same year he was chosen by Computerwoche and CIO Magazin among the top ten in the category "CIO large companies". In 2018, Stefan Krebs achieved 3rd place in the “Public Sector” category in the election for CIO of the year, carried out by Computerwoche and CIO Magazin.

Stefan Krebs is married and has two daughters.
