Stefan Markus
Stefan Samuel Markus (born July 16, 1884 in Zurich ; † February 8, 1957 there ) was a Swiss film producer , journalist and screenwriter.
Career
Stefan Markus completed his studies in literature, history and economics in Berlin and Zurich in 1909 with a doctorate. In the same year he founded the Hertenstein open-air theater in Weggis and began to write dramas and novels. He also worked as a journalist for Swiss, German and Austrian daily newspapers.
After the first two film productions, Stefan Markus went to Paris , where he played a not insignificant role in French silent films over the next few years. With Jeunnes filles à marier he produced the first full-length film made in France in color. The outbreak of war brought him back to Switzerland.
The 1940 film Dilemma was produced by Stefan Markus and was shot in Zurich. Edmund Heuberger directed the film, and Hans Haug wrote the score . The film was produced by “Gotthard-Film AG” and distributed in Switzerland by Ciel Weissmann through the distribution company “Emelka-Film AG” . The actors came from the theaters of Basel, Bern, St. Gallen, Lucerne, Lausanne and Zurich. The film plot. A doctor who fights against the decline in the birth rate and abortion and still helps his daughter who is pregnant. A few days later the daughter dies and the father has to go to the criminal court.
Stefan Markus was married to Irène Renée Marguerite Bourquin.
