Stefan Peter
Stefan Peter (born November 17, 1964 in Mannheim ) is a German swimmer and Olympic participant. The 1.95 m tall and 78 kg heavy athlete started for SV Nikar Heidelberg .
Peter was twice German champion over 100 m back:
- 1982: 59.22 sec.
- 1983: 57.68 sec.
He also won two international medals as a member of the 4 × 100 m layer relay :
- 1982 World Championships in Guayaquil : BRONZE in the German record time of 3: 44.78 minutes behind the USA (gold in the world record time of 3: 40.84 minutes) and the Soviet Union (silver in the European record time of 3: 42.86 minutes) .). Team: Stefan Peter, Gerald Mörken , Michael Groß and Andreas Schmidt .
- 1983 European Championships in Rome : SILVER in 3: 44.79 minutes behind the Soviet Union (gold in 3: 43.99 minutes) and in front of the GDR (bronze in 3: 45.54 minutes). The same line-up as the year before in Guayaquil was swum.
In 1984 Peter took part in the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in part and achieved the following results:
- 100 m back: In the preliminary ninth he qualified for the B-final and finished 3rd in 58.30 seconds (gold went to the American Richard Carey in 55.79 seconds).
- 200 m back: He was twelfth in the prelims and was thus again qualified for the B final, where he came in 5 in 2: 05.66 minutes. (Olympic champion Richard Carey swam 2: 00.23 min.).
- 4 × 100 m layer relay: 4th place in 3: 44.26 minutes (1 second behind the third-placed Australians ), team: Stefan Peter, Gerald Mörken, Michael Groß, Dirk Korthals , Andreas Behrend and Alexander Schowtka .
