Stefan Schuster (born November 7, 1961 ) is a German biophysicist.

Life

In 1977 he took part in the International Physics Olympiad in Hradec Králové as a pupil and won a bronze medal and a special prize as the youngest participant.

He studied biophysics at the Humboldt University in Berlin and received his doctorate in Reinhart Heinrich's group at the Institute for Theoretical Biophysics at the Humboldt University in Berlin (subject: Theoretical studies on the interrelation between time hierarchy in enzymatic reaction systems and optimization principles ). Since 2003 he has been professor of bioinformatics at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena .

Along with Sebastian Böcker, Stefan Schuster is one of the two speakers at the Jena Center for Bioinformatics (JCB). He is also involved in projects from various research groups, including the Jena School for Microbial Communication . He is also one of the editors of the systems biology journal BioSystems .

His main research interests are:

Stefan Schuster was significantly involved in establishing the analysis of metabolic networks using elementary flow modes.

He is the older brother of the director Robert Schuster .
