BioSystems

BioSystems is a scientific journal on interdisciplinary experimental and theoretical research published by Elsevier ( Amsterdam ). The range of topics in the journal combines the fields of biology , evolutionary theory and computer science . The subject areas form a kind of circle that encompasses the fundamentals of biological information processing , the computer simulation of complex biological systems , evolutionary models of numerics , the application of biological principles to the design of new computers and the use of biomolecular materials . The magazine appears every one to two months . The current Impact Factor (2017) is 1.619 and the 5-year Impact Factor 1.460. The cover picture used since 2012 was designed by Margit Leitner ( Jena ).

The journal BioSystems was founded in March 1967 under the title Currents in Modern Biology by Robert G. Grenell . In 1972 the title was changed from Currents to Modern Biology: Bio Systems . That in turn was later shortened to BioSystems . Past editors have included Alan W. Schwartz, Sidney W. Fox , Michael Conrad, Lynn Margulis, and David B. Fogel .

The editorial board currently consists of Abir Igamberdiev ( Editor-in-Chief ) ( Memorial University of Newfoundland , St. John's) , Gary B. Fogel (Natural Selection, Inc., San Diego ), Koichiro Matsuno ( Nagaoka University of Technology), Stefan Schuster ( Friedrich- Schiller University Jena ) and Hidde de Jong ( INRIA , Grenoble ) (editor for reviews ).

Original articles, short communications and review articles are published in BioSystems . All manuscripts are reviewed by experts. The journal also publishes articles on topics that are somewhat outside the current main directions of research in order to give opportunities to new ideas on such topics as well.
