Stefan Struve (born February 18, 1988 in Beverwijk ) is a Dutch mixed martial arts fighter who competes in the heavyweight class of the Ultimate Fighting Championship . His ring name Skyscraper ( skyscraper ) refers to his height of 211 cm, which makes him the tallest fighter in the UFC. He trains under the former kickboxer and MMA fighter Bob Schrijber . Struve's competitive career spanned 43 fights, of which he won 32 and lost four (as of July 2018).

Career

Struve began martial arts at the age of 14. He made his victorious MMA debut at 17 on March 19, 2005. This was followed by more fights at events around the world, such as World Extreme Fighting , Cage Gladiators , Beast of the East and M-1 Global . By November 2008 he had 16 wins and two losses as well as the title of Cage Gladiators World Heavyweight Champion . He defeated Colin Robinson and Mario Neto , among others .

In December 2008, Struve signed a contract with the UFC. His first fight took place against Junior dos Santos on February 21, 2009 at UFC 95 . He lost by technical knockout (TKO) in the first round. But in his next fights, on June 13 at UFC 99 against Denis Stojnic and on October 24 at UFC 104 against Chase Gormley, he was able to force his opponent to give up. For beating Gormley, he received a bonus award for the Submission of the Night . At UFC 107 on December 12, he scored a win on points against Paul Buentello .

In his next fight at UFC Fight Night: Florian vs. Gomi on March 31, 2010 Stefan Struve had to face Roy Nelson , who had previously won the tenth season of The Ultimate Fighter . Nelson knocked him out after 39 seconds. Struve later reported that he suffered food poisoning on the day of the fight. On August 7, Struve defeated UFC newcomer Christian Morecraft by KO at UFC 117 and received a bonus for the Knockout of the Night . At UFC 124 on December 11, 2010, he defeated Sean McCorkle by TKO in the first round.

In 2013, Struve was diagnosed with a bicuspid aortic valve.
