Stefan Tschannen began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the youth team of SC Bern , for whose professional team he made his debut in the National League A in the 2002/03 season , with no point or penalty in three games. In the following season, the attacker and his team won the Swiss championship for the first time in his career , scoring five points in a total of 60 games.

After he had been on the ice for another year for SC Bern, Tschannen moved to the second division club SC Langenthal during the 2004/05 season , for which he was active until 2006. Then the Swiss was signed by EHC Basel , which he left after relegation in the 2007/08 season to play for the NLA promoted EHC Biel . He scored a total of ten scorer points in 38 games in the 2008/09 season , including one goal. In the course of 2009/10 Tschannen moved to SC Langenthal after spending most of the season in Biel again. Since the 2010/2011 season he has only played for SC Langenthal , with whom he became Swiss champion of the National League B in 2012.

After the resignation of long-time goalkeeper Marc Eichmann in spring 2016, Stefan Tschannen is the player in the current squad with the most matches for the SCL. Together with the two Canadians Jeff Campbell and Brent Kelly , Tschannen has been the most successful attacking formation in the second highest Swiss league for years.
