Stefan from Kempis

Stefan von Kempis (born February 9, 1970 in Bonn ) is a German journalist. Since 2019 he has been head of the German-speaking department of Vatican News , formerly Vatican Radio .

Life

Stefan von Kempis attended the Jesuit-led Aloisius College in Bonn. He studied history, theology and literature in Bonn, Paris and Freiburg as well as Arabic and Islamic studies at the Pontifical Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies (PISAI) in Rome and Cairo. He also completed a compact television course at the Catholic School of Journalism ifp in Munich. He then worked as an editor at the TV production company 6w-film in Münster.

In 1995 he became editor at Vatican Radio, since 2001 as deputy editor-in-chief and since 2017 as acting director. In 2019 he succeeded Bernd Hagenkord SJ and took over the management of the German-speaking department of Vatican News (until 2017 Vatican Radio). Since Radio Vatican was founded in 1931, von Kempis has been the first layman to head the German-speaking department.

He has published several books. Von Kempis is married and has two children.
