Life

Steffen Terk was born in 1950 as Steffen Wolf-Peter Kuhnert and in 1974 took his stage name "Terk". From 1969 to 1972 he received lessons as a private student from Gerd Kaden-Cuba , who maintained a studio at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts without a teaching assignment . From 1971 to 1976 he was a member of the illegal Dresden artist group " Lücke ". He showed his early works in 1971 in the solo exhibition "UNDERGROUND" in the "Lücke" studio. The term “underground” was first used aggressively by an artist in the GDR to describe himself. Terk was expatriated from the GDR at his own request in 1980 and has lived and worked in Bonn ever since .

Artistic concept

From the experiences of the artistic discussions within the group “Lücke”, which painted community pictures, he developed his conception of painting as a game in which everything conceivable can become visible. The embedding in broad theoretical horizons is characteristic of his work. In system-analytical penetration and self-reflection of the art media, he further developed the approach and methodology of the artist group “Lücke”.
