Distribution and locations

The stiff rocket is native to Eurasia and occurs here in the submeridional-south-temperate Florence zone , where the degree of continentality is c3 to c5 (from 10). It grows in Central Europe on fresh, nutrient-rich, mostly calcareous, sandy or pure, more or less deep loam or clay soils. It likes to thrive together with the gold calf's goiter ( Chaerophyllum aureum ) or the bulbous calf's goiter ( Chaerophyllum bulbosum ) in societies of the order Glechometalia, but also occurs in those of the Convolvulion association.

In Germany it occurs scattered in central and northern Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, rarely in southern Hesse, central and northern Thuringia, in Saxony on the Elbe to Meißen, in Saxony-Anhalt and south-east Lower Saxony. As a neophyte , it is rarely found in northern Saxony near Leipzig and Schwepnitz.

In Austria, the stiff rocket occurs in all federal states. It grows in nutritious bushes and riparian forests. It can often be found near castles and castle ruins. It occurs scattered in the colline and submontane altitudes . It is missing in Liechtenstein.
