Stones of remembrance St. Pölten
575 men, women and children known by name of the Jewish community of St. Pölten were murdered in the Holocaust . As a sign of individual commemoration and on the occasion of its 30th anniversary, the Institute for Jewish History in Austria began to set stones of remembrance for these people in cooperation with the city of St. Pölten. The 18 × 18 cm brass plates with names, for women birth name, date of birth, date of deportation and, where ascertainable, date of death are set in the sidewalk in front of the last voluntary residential address.
The stone setting is continued annually, the goal are stones of remembrance at all around 80 St. Pölten addresses and others in all places of residence of the catchment area of the former religious community.
The first twelve stones at eight addresses for 28 murdered people were set on October 4, 2018 in the presence of Mayor Mag.Matthias Stadler and numerous relatives from Austria, Switzerland, the USA, Great Britain and Argentina as well as committed citizens of St. Pölten. Some of today's house residents also attended the ceremony. On October 3, 2019, a further eleven stones were set at ten addresses for 17 murdered people. In addition , a memorial plaque was attached to the synagogue (St. Pölten) in memory of the architect of the synagogue (St. Pölten) Theodor Schreier and his wife Anna.

Biographical Holocaust research for the stones of memory St. Pölten
The basis for dealing with the Jewish history of St. Pölten are the two books by Christoph Lind "... there were such nice people there" and "... we grew up as country people in our homeland ...". In the course of several student projects (such as displaced neighbors or "De-registered") and the long-term project Memorbuch. Jews in St. Pölten looked after by Benjamin Grilj, new biographical information is constantly being compiled and updated. The Institute for Jewish History in Austria always has the latest research results and is actively involved in shaping the (Lower) Austrian and St. Pölten memory landscape.
Financing the project
The production and installation are financed through sponsorships from citizens of the city of St. Pölten and surviving relatives. In addition, the National Fund of the Republic of Austria for Victims of National Socialism , the Future Fund of the Republic of Austria , the City of St. Pölten and the Science and Research Department of the Province of Lower Austria participate
