Steinemann Island is an island in the Adelaide and Biscoe Islands archipelago off the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located 16 km southwest of Mount Vélain in the southwest entrance to the Buchanan Passage off the northeast coast of Adelaide Island .

Aerial photographs of the American Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947–1948) and the Falkland Islands and Dependencies Aerial Survey Expedition (1956–1957) were used to map them. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named them in 1960 after the Swiss physicist Samuel Gotthilf Steinemann (1923-2016) from the University of Lausanne , who in 1953 had investigated the flow properties of singular or polycrystalline ice structures.
