Steinhaus , even stones-house , is a former inn with the address in Hammertal 2 in the district Blankenstein in Hattingen . The houses to the east and south already belong to Witten .

location

It is located at the intersection of the road from Stiepel to Sprockhövel and the road from Herbede to Blankenstein through the Hammertal along the Pleßbach . The section of road up to Blankenstein Castle was opened in 1865. House Kemnade is a few hundred meters north . There is a paved path to the Katzenstein at the house itself . The bus stop is of the same name. The place of residence is also shown on some maps . The Alte Ruhr-Katzenstein nature reserve borders directly to the west .

history

The house was set up as an inn in the middle of the 19th century. In the middle of the 19th century the innkeeper was called Stubbesing. After the completion of the road to Herbede, the business flourished because of the carters. Around 1897 the owner was Max Cramer. At the beginning of the 20th century the owner was Nicolaus Horn. During this time the house was often depicted on postcards.

Asylum seekers were housed here in the 1990s. In 2006 the license agreement with the city of Hattingen expired.

In 2010 the application for a change of use was granted. In 2013 a swingers club was opened here after six years of vacancy . In 2013, the company was required to use only a third of the usable area of the house, as there were not enough parking spaces in front of the house. After the restaurant permit, 199 guests may be present.

In the swingers club on the evening of November 2, 2019, around 200 people were evacuated by buses by 160 rescue workers and taken to a collection point at Haus Kemnade ; in the first reports there was talk of 300 people, but this was corrected by the city administration. First, two people had collapsed and an ambulance took them to nearby hospitals. When a carbon monoxide warning device from the rescue workers struck, it was likely that the collapsed guests had become victims of carbon monoxide poisoning and an evacuation took place. Eleven injured were found. The cause remained a mystery, as measurements by chimney sweeps and employees of the gas supplier do not substantiate the suspicion of carbon monoxide leakage.
