Stone chest from Horne
The Bronze Age stone box from Horne is in the Horne Kirke cemetery in Hjørring Municipality in Vendsyssel in Northern Jutland in Denmark . The village of Horne is about three kilometers south of Hirtshals . The Horne Kirke is a country church from the 12th century.
The stone box ( Danish light box ) was discovered in 1939 and restored in 1979. The large cap stone of the box has about 30 small bowls ( Danish skålgroper ), so that the stone obviously had an extended function in a religious context and, among other things, U. was used for fertility rituals.
Nearby is the Dysse of Tornby , Denmark's northernmost preserved dolmen .
