Vendsyssel is a landscape on the island of Vendsyssel-Thy (or North Jutian Island), which is north of the Limfjord in Denmark . The approximately 3000 km² area lies between the Kattegat and Skagerrak .

The west coast of Vendsyssel is characterized by wide and flat beaches and the steep coast at Rubjerg . In the 1930s, large holiday home areas were built at Blokhus and Løkken . The east coast has much narrower beaches, the water depth decreases only slowly and there are mostly sandbars in front of the shore. The east is much more hilly and forested than the west. To the north, the landscape runs towards the headland of Grenen , Denmark's northernmost point. The landscape from Råbjerg towards Skagen is characterized by dunes and moraines. There is also the shifting dune Råbjerg Mile .

There are ferry, bridge and tunnel connections to the mainland.

There are numerous prehistoric and early historical sites in Vendsyssel. Including the megalithic systems :

Only cremations are known from the Iron Age in Vendsyssel. Two different species have been found in Donbæk near Frederikshavn. Either there was a relatively large hill, maybe 1.5 m high, with no stone circle around it, or a low stone circle without a hill. In the lower part of the larger mounds the grave lay in the form of a layer of burned bones. In the filling of the hill there was often a larger stone, perhaps an overturned building stone . In the low stone circle without a hill, the grave was a layer of coal more concentrated in the middle or scattered over the ground.
