The megalithic stone box

The stone box from Södra Härene (also called Jättakullen ) is the largest stone box ( Swedish hällkista ) in Sweden with a length of 14.0 meters and a width of four meters . Neolithic monuments are an expression of the culture and ideology of Neolithic societies. Their origin and function are considered to be the hallmarks of social development.

The site is about seven kilometers north of Vårgårda , barely 100 meters east of the church of Södra Härene, on the Jättakullen burial ground in Västergötland . The stone box belongs to the so-called " megalithic stone boxes", which are also called large boxes and were built at the end of the Neolithic Age . The plant has a few bowls .

There are three more megalithic stone boxes in Vårgårda Municipality , including the stone box on Lundskullen .
