The stone circle of Cloghchurnel , which is marked on the historical maps as Druidenkreis and Fort, is located in the townland of the same name ( Irish Cloch Choirnéil ) on a hill 3.1 km northeast of Granard in the northeast of County Longford in Ireland north of the approximately 10 km long here ramparts of the black pig's Dyke or black Ditch ( Irish Gleann na muice duibhe - German  "Wall of black pigs" ). It is one of almost 200 stone circles in Ireland. The Irish stone circles are between three and 60 meters in diameter and are primarily concentrated in Counties Tyrone (Northern Ireland) and Cork .

The incomplete stone circle of Cloghchurnel, about 30 meters in diameter, sits on private land about 15 meters from the road. The 19 preserved stones from 0.3 to 1.75 meters high form a semicircle from east to west. The tallest stone is in the southeast and is 77 centimeters wide and 1.05 meters thick.

To the east of Granard is the Cartronbore stone circle .
