The Stejneger peak is 185 m high, distinctive and rocky mountain on Bird Iceland off the northwestern tip of South Georgia . It rises at the head of Evermann Cove .
Scientists from the University of Cambridge 's South Georgia Biological Expedition (1958-1959) carried out measurements. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1960 after the US zoologist Leonhard Stejneger (1851-1943), who had carried out important studies on the fur seals and birds on the islands in the Bering Sea in the 19th century and in 1896 a member of the British-US - American Commission to Investigate Fur Seals in the Bering Sea.
