2005 implementation to Zgorzelec

The Stellmacherhaus ( Polish: Dom Kołodzieja or Zagroda Kołodzieja ) is an Upper Lusatian half-timbered house from 1822, which was moved to Zgorzelec in 2005 from its previous location in Wigancice Żytawskie (German: Weigsdorf ) near Bogatynia . Today the house is located on the outskirts north of the Zgorzelec industrial park on Aleje Lipowe, a side street off Droga krajowa 30 .

The house was built in 1822 in the Saxon part of Weigsdorf. The carpentry family Stephan lived in the house between 1851 and 1947 . After their escape, five different families lived in the house, all of which are immortalized on memorial plaques in the hallway of the house. In 2000 the house from the Turów open-cast lignite mine was handed over to Elżbieta Lech-Gotthardt. The house was dismantled within three days in 2005, and it was broken down into 520 individual parts. Due to the good condition of the larch wood, only six of the 520 individual parts had to be replaced. The numerous stone and forged iron components were also used again. The implementation cost around 250,000  euros and was funded by the Polish Ministry of Culture. In 2006 Elżbieta Lech-Gotthardt received the Environment Prize for the implementation of the house. The house has been preserved in its original form since it was built and is the only preserved house in the former village of Wigancice. The stable and barn are also to be built in the next few years based on the original buildings.

The house is a symbol for the intertwining of German-Polish history in the region. Today a guesthouse and restaurant are located inside the house. The guest rooms are located in the former wheelwright workshop and in the block room. The history of the house and the former village of Wigancice, whose residents were relocated in 2000 to use the village corridor as a dump for the Turów open-cast lignite mine , is remembered in the premises .

The building can be viewed annually on the last weekend in May as part of the Open Half-timbered House Day , which takes place in Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic.
