Sten Konow
Sten Konow (born April 17, 1867 in Søndre Aurdal , † June 29, 1948 in Oslo ) was a Norwegian Indologist.
Life
Since 1897 private lecturer and since 1899 lecturer, in 1910 he was appointed professor of Indian philology at Christiania University (Oslo) . In 1914 he moved to the University of Hamburg , where he took over the chair for culture and history of India. In 1919 he returned to the University of Oslo as a professor of Indian language and history.
Konow belonged to numerous academies and scientific societies. Since 1923 he was a corresponding member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences and since 1933 of the Saxon Academy of Sciences .
