Stenocactus rectispinus is a species of Stenocactus in the cactus family(Cactaceae).
description
Stenocactus rectispinus grows individually with spherical to short cylindrical shoots and reaches heights of up to 4 centimeters with a diameter of 5 centimeters. The 22 to 28 ribs are wavy. Young areoles are white. The one or two awl, thin central spines are yellowish and have a darker tip. They are striped lengthways, straight or slightly curved and 1 to 2 inches long. The glassy white 18 to 24 needle-shaped radial spines are spread out horizontally. They are 1 to 1.4 inches long.
The yellowish white flowers have a reddish central stripe and are up to 1.5 centimeters long. The fruits have not yet been described.
Systematics and distribution
Stenocactus rectispinus is believed to be common in central Mexico . The first description was in 1969 by Carolina Schmoll . It may just be a synonym for Stenocactus vaupelianus . A synonym is Echinofossulocactus vaupelianus var. Rectispinus Bravo (nom. Inval. Art. 34.1a, 36.1).
