Stenographers Association 1897 Langen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Stenographers Association 1897 Langen EV is the stenographers association of the Hessian city of Langen . With its non-profit organization, the association, as the city's educational institution, contributes to intellectual, cultural and practical education. The association advocates early learning of tactile writing among young people and the preservation of shorthand as a cultural asset. The most prominent teacher of the association was Michael Winkler , the founder of Winklers Verlag (later: "Winklers Verlag Gebrüder Grimm, Darmstadt", today: part of the Westermann printing and publishing group ).

A specialty of the association is the maintenance of the English shorthand. It is not a fundamentally different shorthand system, but a corresponding system adaptation of the German standard shorthand to the English language. The club regularly competes in this discipline as one of the most successful clubs in Germany at the German championships.

The association offers lessons in various subjects. This includes on the one hand the traditional disciplines of shorthand and tactile writing , but also seminars in Word, Excel and other Microsoft Office applications as well as commas and spelling. The Stenographers Association 1897 Langen EV is a long-time member of the German Stenographers Association and the Hessian Stenographers Association and belongs to the district of South Hesse. The association is housed in the premises of the Langen Adult Education Center in the "Kulturhaus Altes Amtsgericht", where lessons also take place. The members and teams take part in national competitions and championships across Germany as well as regional ones.

history

The association was founded on June 27, 1897 by supporters of the Gabelsberger stenography system . The first chairman of the association was the clerk W. Usinger. Since there was no club room of their own in the beginning, the club members met first in the restaurant "Frankfurter Hof" on the corner of Bahnstrasse and Mühlstrasse in Langen. Under the chairmanship of Heinrich Schäfer, the association switched directly to the newly introduced German unified shorthand in 1924 . In 2017 the association celebrates its 120th anniversary.

Race record successes

The team regularly takes part in the German championships in tactile writing and shorthand, which are held annually by the German Stenographers Association. The club has won a number of awards in the German championships in the past and is currently the reigning runner-up in English shorthand (as of May 29, 2017).
