Stenus guttula is a beetle from the family of the short-winged species (Staphylinidae).

features

The beetles reach a body length of 4 to 4.5 millimeters. The wings have a yellow, round discal patch. They are longer and significantly wider than the pronotum . The legs of the animals, including the tarsi, are mostly colored yellow. The base of the tergite has no wrinkles.

Occurrence and way of life

The species occurs in the southern Palearctic . It is widespread in Central and Southern Europe, southern Northern Europe, North Africa, the Azores , Canaries and Madeira as well as in Siberia . The species is common and not uncommon in Austria, in Germany it is only very locally and rarely distributed in the south and in the middle, in the north it occurs only sporadically. The animals colonize the banks of streams and rivulets, damp, loamy, muddy places, damp bog and rotting plant material. They occur from April to November, but can also be observed in winter.
