Stephan Becker (jazz pianist)

Stephan Becker (* around 1972) is a German jazz pianist and composer.

Becker, who comes from a musical family (his grandmother was an opera singer ), has been playing the piano since the age of five. First he studied classical piano in Maastricht, before continuing his studies with Leonid Chizhik at the Liszt School of Music Weimar from 1995 . From 1996 to 1999 he studied at the Folkwang Hochschule Essen up to a diploma in jazz piano; then he completed a postgraduate course in instrumental pedagogy until 2002. He also took private lessons with Richie Beirach . In 1999 he founded his trio with whom he recorded his first album in 2000 and went on tour in Germany and later also in Poland; He also played at the Hamm International Jazz Festival, the Miles Davis Festival in Kielce and the Museumsuferfest in Frankfurt.

Becker's second CD First Day of Spring (2011) was particularly prominent in Jazzthing and Stereoplay . The album Urban Poems (2013) was selected by NDR in March 2013 as “Jazz record of the week”. He also recorded with Matthias Petzold ( Mirrors ).
