Stephan Oppel

Stephan Oppel (* 1973 in Paderborn ) is an organ builder in Gellinghausen near Schmallenberg in the Hochsauerland . He became known for the restoration of the last original organ made by the Mainz court organ builder Jakob Köhler in Vendersheim (Rhineland-Palatinate).

Vita

Stephan Oppel first grew up in Neuhaus Castle near Paderborn . In 1980 he moved to Paderborn, where he received his first organ lessons at the age of seven. Among his teachers were Reinhard Daniel, Rudolf Brüggemeier and the then Paderborn cathedral organist Helmut Peters. In Paderborn he attended the Theodorianum high school . In 1989 he took up the profession of organ builder at the Sauer company in Höxter / Ottbergen. In 1995 Stephan Oppel moved to the Albers organ building workshop in Schmallenberg / Oberkirchen in the Hochsauerland. In 2000 he founded his own organ building company. After taking the master’s exams, he moved into his own organ building workshop in 2002. Orgelbau Oppel specializes in organ building, restoration and maintenance. For several years he has been involved in endangered, historical English-romantic organs. Some of these instruments were brought to Germany and restored by him there. The Oppel company is committed to the great Westphalian organ building history.
