Stephan Zebe

Stephan Zebe (* 1966 in Cottbus ) is a German composer and choir director .

Life

Stephan Zebe has been writing and publishing gospel music for choirs since the 1980s . He learned the piano and double bass, grew up singing choirs and wrote for various ensembles as a teenager. Later he studied church music in Halle (Saale) . Moved by the self-image of gospel music as church music , he founded the first gospel choir of the church music school . He shaped the gospel choir scene in Hamburg (Swinging Colors, Hamburger Soulchor) and Berlin (Berliner Soulchor, Gospelkollektiv, Lighthill Gospel) and founded initiatives to network them (Gospel Goes City). Zebe studied cultural management at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater .

Zebe's influence from Black Gospel is unmistakable in his compositions . In his choirs and workshops he achieves a modern, powerful choral sound. He achieved a journalistic breakthrough in 1993 with his series of "Ultimate Gospel Choir Books" under the pseudonym Jeff Guillen. He founded his own publishing house, ZebeMusic .

Stephan Zebe lives and works in Berlin and is active in his company ZebeMusic as a composer, arranger and publisher of his own and other works. He works as a choir director and pianist , teaches at the Berlin University of the Arts , leads choir workshops and is a member of the artist group TAKT .
