Stefan von Perm (also Stephan von Perm; Russian Стефан Пермский , Stefan Permski; * 1340 or 1345 in or near Veliky Ustyug ; † April 26, 1396 in Moscow , canonized in 1547) was bishop of Little Perm since 1383 . He is considered the apostle of the Syrian (Komi) . Around 1372 he created the ancient Permian script for the translation of biblical and liturgical texts , the second oldest alphabet of an Uralic language (after the ancient Hungarian script ).
