Stephen Carr (figure skater)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stephen Alexander Carr (born January 6, 1966 in Sydney , New South Wales ) is a former Australian figure skater who started in single and pair skating .

Between 1985 and 1998 Stephen Carr took part with his sister Danielle Carr (from 1996 married McGrath) as a sports couple in world championships and three times in Olympic Winter Games. By 1990 the couple was subscribed to places at the end of the field. In the later years they managed to work their way up to midfield. Carr is unusually short for a pair of skiers (1.67 m), his sister is only 1.48 m.

At the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer and at various world championships between 1990 and 1996, Carr also competed as a single runner. He is one of the few athletes in recent figure skating history who pursued both disciplines at the same time on an international level. However, his successes as a single runner were modest. Only in 1994 did he manage to qualify for the freestyle finals in the Olympic competition and the subsequent World Cup.

Carr started for the Sydney Figure Skating Club.
